Apple bets on artificial intelligence with debut of HomeView smart hub

Apple expanded its footprint in the modern living room on Tuesday with the unveiling of HomeView, a seven inch smart home hub designed to serve as the central nervous system for the connected house. Whether mounted on a wall or perched on a tabletop, the device acts as a physical gateway for the company’s latest advancements in artificial intelligence. Starting at 299 dollars and shipping November 13, HomeView uses facial recognition to personalize the experience for up to six different users, automatically shifting calendars, reminders, and photos based on who is standing in front of the screen.

The device arrives as a primary showcase for the newly upgraded Siri AI, allowing users to engage in fluid, complex conversations that can seamlessly transition from the hub to an iPhone or iPad. Powered by the A18 chip, HomeView transforms into a comprehensive dashboard where homeowners can monitor security cameras from partners like LG and Schneider Electric or adjust thermostats with a single touch. This push into deeper home integration reflects a strategic effort to tighten the grip of Apple’s ecosystem, making it increasingly inconvenient for loyalists to migrate toward Android alternatives.

This launch marks only the second major event under CEO John Ternus, who stepped into his role from Tim Cook in September. While investors typically keep their eyes glued to iPhone sales—particularly following the recent launch of the high end Duo foldable—Ternus appears keen on accelerating product cycles across other categories. Alongside HomeView, Apple refreshed its home lineup with new colors for the HomePod Mini and a revamped Apple TV 4K featuring a findable remote, though both saw price increases attributed to rising component costs.

Despite these additions, Apple is navigating a volatile electronics market defined by supply chain shortages and fluctuating consumer demand. By positioning these accessories as essential tools for AI interaction rather than mere peripherals, Apple is attempting to pivot its wearables and home division into a more significant driver of growth. For now, HomeView stands as a signal that under new leadership, the company views the domestic space not just as a place for gadgets, but as an integrated environment governed by intelligent software.
