Xbox app is coming to TCL TVs just as Microsoft rolls out pay-as-you-go cloud gaming

Microsoft is expanding its reach into the living room by partnering with TCL to bring the Xbox app to a wide range of supported smart TVs. Expected to launch within the next few months, the integration allows users to stream Game Pass titles and other owned games directly through their television without needing a physical console. This move follows similar partnerships with brands like Samsung, LG, and Hisense, signaling Microsoft’s commitment to making high end gaming accessible via any screen with an internet connection.

The timing of this expansion coincides with a significant shift in how Microsoft monetizes its cloud services. Starting in November, the company will introduce a pay as you go model for Xbox Cloud Gaming. This new flexible pricing structure means players can access the streaming service without committing to a full Game Pass subscription, lowering the barrier for casual gamers who do not own hardware but want to experience specific titles. There are further hints that a free, ad supported version may follow after current insider testing concludes.

However, these expanded accessibility options come with some restrictive caveats for existing members. In a surprising turn, Microsoft is implementing monthly limits on cloud gaming hours for those subscribed to various tiers of Game Pass. Ultimate subscribers will now be capped at fifteen hours per month, while Premium and Essential members will see even tighter restrictions of ten and five hours respectively. Those who exceed these allotments will be required to purchase additional bundles of cloud hours to keep playing.

By diversifying both its hardware partnerships and its payment models, Microsoft is clearly attempting to cast a wider net across the global market. While long term subscribers might find the new hourly caps frustrating, the push toward TCL televisions and ala carte pricing suggests that the future of Xbox is moving away from the box under the TV and toward a more fluid, platform agnostic ecosystem.
