The Blood of Dawnwalker won’t run at 60fps on PS5 or Xbox at launch, new gameplay confirms

Gamers expecting a buttery smooth experience at launch may be disappointed after new gameplay footage revealed that The Blood of Dawnwalker will not support 60 frames per second on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S. Developer Rebel Wolves and publisher Bandai Namco have clarified that players will instead choose between two distinct graphical settings. A Quality Mode will target 30fps at dynamic 4K, while a Balanced Mode aims for 40fps at the same resolution. Even those investing in the high end PS5 Pro won’t see a jump in frame rate, though they can expect enhanced visual fidelity within those existing limits.

The revelation has sparked immediate frustration among the community, particularly given the current standards of the industry. Many fans took to social media and YouTube to voice their disappointment, arguing that by 2026, a 60fps option should be considered the baseline for any major release. Several critics suggested that they would gladly sacrifice some of that sharp 4K resolution if it meant achieving a smoother, more responsive gameplay experience. While rumors persist that a performance patch might arrive after the game hits shelves, there is currently no official word from the studio confirming such an update.

Despite the technical controversy, expectations remain sky high for the title due to its pedigree. Directed by Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, who held leadership roles on both The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, the project carries significant weight. Early hands-on impressions suggest that the actual content justifies the anticipation, with early testers praising the depth of its combat systems and innovative approach to sandbox freedom and time management. If these reports hold true, it could become one of the most influential RPGs in recent memory regardless of its frame rate.

Players won’t have to wait much longer to judge for themselves whether 40fps is sufficient for this ambitious world. The Blood of Dawnwalker is scheduled for release on September 3rd across all current generation consoles. As launch day approaches, all eyes will likely stay on potential updates regarding performance optimizations as users hope for a surprise boost before they dive into Tomaszkiewicz’s latest vision.
